Maintenance Specialist (Trades) - Job Training Program
The University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) seeks a Maintenance Specialist to aid the Facilities department with maintenance and repairs of all campus facilities which include buildings, grounds, and utility systems including but not limited to lights, ceilings, doors, restrooms, and HVAC equipment. The Facilities department maintains all buildings and grounds of the campus and the maintenance performed may be routine, emergency, or preventive, this includes inspections on building systems and equipment.
This position requires the ability to operate power tools/machinery, operate light or heavy equipment, wear personal protective equipment if required, climb ladders, work in high places, to walk over extended periods, and work while bending and stooping. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must have ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, staff and university personnel and work with others in a respectful, cooperative manner and be a team player. Must have ability to follow directions, pass mandatory Program for Minors training, pass a background check, take annual safety and OHSA training as required by the state and campus safety office. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance to work in securedfacilities. Must be reliable in attendance, clean and neat in appearance, and be able to perform moderately strenuous activities. Workdays = Monday through Friday, hours 7:30 am until 4:30 pm.Job Function/Responsibilities:• Install, repair, maintain, overhaul, clean and service various types of refrigeration and HVAC/R equipment • Perform preventative maintenance on air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation systems as well as plumbing involved with HVAC/R.• Maintain and repair building systems including following a maintenance schedule for greasing bearings, replacing belts, checking and repairing exhaust fans and pumps. • Will assist in repair and overhaul of pumps and air compressors as well as modify and adjust systems and units to include thermostats and control systems.• Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems up to 480 volts, facilities, and appliances.• Performs other related duties as required .
At least five years of experience in maintenance and troubleshooting commercial grade electrical and/or refrigeration systems.
