Program summary

Upon completion of the 17-week (120 days) course, the intern will possess a solid grounding in all essential facets for achievement, encompassing a profound comprehension of the processes and lifecycle of sexual assault and sexual harassment cases in the military, along with a functional grasp of the SAPR program and chain of command. In addition, the intern will receive a signed verification letter, utilizing DD FORM 2950-1, from the Installation SARC. This letter will serve to formally confirm and document the intern's experience in victim advocacy during their tenure in the program

Roles & job description

All Interns will perform functions that model a full-time SAPR victim advocate and receive expert mentoring, supervision, and management of daily task assignments under the direct guidance of a certified Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC). During their internship, the individual will adhere to strict confidentiality protocols and victim-centered approach, acquiring practical experience to enhance their understanding and response capabilities in crisis intervention techniques, community resources, and the complexities of sexual assault/sexual harassment. This will equip them with the essential knowledge, protocols and procedures, and resources needed to empower them in effectively assisting and supporting survivors of sexual assault/sexual harassment, offering trauma-informed support and advocacy by guiding them through the confidential reporting process, gaining access to healthcare, legal options, and other critical resources.

Eligibility notes

The Skillbridge Intern will be expected to adhere to a Monday to Friday schedule from 0800 to 1630, spanning eight-hours each day. In order to support installation level SAPR response capabilities, they may also be required to work on-call, on the weekends, or in the evenings and reside within one hour commute time from the installation. A minimum of a Tier 3 background investigation must be conducted every 5 years IAW applicable OPM requirements. The Intern must possess a current DoD Sexual Assault Advocate Certification throughout the entirety of the program and recertification from the National Organization of Victim Assistance (NOVA), as specified in applicable DoD and AF policy. This Internship position requires the Intern to drive a privately owned vehicle (POV), government vehicle (GOV), and possess a valid state issued Class E driver’s license. c. The Intern will be required to travel on military and/or commercial aircraft for military temporary duty assignments or conferences relevant to sexual assault/sexual harassment training. AFSOC SAPR program will fund all associated travel cost.

The base is situated 8 miles west of Clovis, in the high plains of eastern New Mexico, near the Texas Panhandle. Altitude: Cannon AFB is 4,295 feet above sea level.
