Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Specialist Intern - Job Training Program

Upon completion of the 17-week (120 days) course, the intern will possess a solid grounding in all essential facets for achievement, encompassing a profound comprehension of the processes and lifecycle of sexual assault and sexual harassment cases in the military, along with a functional grasp of the SAPR program and chain of command. In addition, the intern will receive a signed verification letter, utilizing DD FORM 2950-1, from the Installation SARC. This letter will serve to formally confirm and document the intern's experience in victim advocacy during their tenure in the program.

All Interns will perform functions that model a full-time SAPR victim advocate and receive expert mentoring, supervision, and management of daily task assignments under the direct guidance of a certified Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC). During their internship, the individual will adhere to strict confidentiality protocols and victim-centered approach, acquiring practical experience to enhance their understanding and response capabilities in crisis intervention techniques, community resources, and the complexities of sexual assault/sexual harassment. This will equip them with the essential knowledge, protocols and procedures, and resources needed to empower them in effectively assisting and supporting survivors of sexual assault/sexual harassment, offering trauma-informed support and advocacy by guiding them through the confidential reporting process, gaining access to healthcare, legal options, and other critical resources.

1. This position is identified as a position of public trust and requires a high degree of discretion in relation to sensitive information IAW DoD policies. A minimum of a Tier 3 background investigation must be conducted every 5 years IAW applicable OPM requirements.2. The Intern must possess a current DoD Sexual Assault Advocate Certification throughout the entirety of the program and recertification from the National Organization of Victim Assistance (NOVA), as specified in applicable DoD and AF policy.3. The Intern will be required to travel on military and/or commercial aircraft for military temporary duty assignments or conferences relevant to sexual assault/sexual harassment training. AFSOC SAPR program will fund all associated travel cost.4. This Internship position requires the Intern to drive a privately owned vehicle (POV), government vehicle (GOV), and possess a valid state issued Class E driver’s license.

Hurlburt Field Air Force Base is located on the Gulf of Mexico in the Florida Panhandle, 35 miles east of Pensacola (United States). This area is also known as the Emerald Coast and is a major tourist attraction for its breathtaking white beaches and the emerald green waters. The host unit is 1st Special Operations Wing (1st SOW) and is one of six Air Force active duty special operations wings and falls under the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). The 1st SOW is a pivotal component of AFSOC's ability to provide airpower to conduct special operations missions worldwide. The primary mission of the 1st SOW is to rapidly plan and execute specialized and contingency operations in support of national priorities. The wing's core missions include close air support, precision aerospace firepower, specialized aerospace mobility, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations, and agile combat support. The 1st SOW and Hurlburt Field also plays host to 40 partner units from six major commands including the 505th Command and Control Wing and the 492d Special Operations Wing (hurlburt.af.mil).
