Program summary

This internship is an opportunity for service members to experience private equity - one of the largest and most important industries in the financial sector, which is also one of the most competitive and often inaccessible for individuals without High Tier degrees and investment banking qualifications. Through a mix of guided training and value-adding workstreams, an intern at the conclusion of the internship will gain confidence in their ability to enter the business world and the experience to succeed in the financial services industry.

Roles & job description

Private Equity Associates are responsible for evaluating and executing investment opportunities, including performing detailed financial analysis, market research, and due diligence. They also manage and monitor existing portfolio companies, assisting in strategic decisions to enhance profitability and prepare for successful exits. The private equity associate role has similar skill sets to an investment banking associate or an associate consultant at a top strategy consulting firm. Private equity associates typically command superior compensation, and are strongly positioned for entry into top-tier MBA programs, as well as significant career optionality and upward mobility.

Interview prep for this program
Ask them
  • ▸ "How many of your past SkillBridge interns received full-time offers?" — a serious program knows the number.
  • ▸ "Who will my day-to-day mentor be, and what does week one look like?"
  • ▸ "The listing says 61 - 90 days — can that flex to my approved window if my command shortens it?"
  • ▸ "Is relocation expected for a full-time offer, or can I convert where I am?"
Bring to the conversation
  • ✓ Your projected start window and separation date (from your profile)
  • ✓ Your command's approval status — even "packet drafted" signals you're serious
  • ✓ Your civilian-translated resume bullets (generate them here)
  • ✓ A written training-plan ask — you'll need it for your packet anyway
