Construction Estimator
The Construction Estimator SkillBridge program is a structured, four‑week training program designed to develop a competent earthwork estimator capable of producing accurate, defensible takeoffs using AGTEK Gradework. The lesson plan progresses from foundational skills, such as digital file management, construction plan reading, and basic earthwork concepts, to core estimating workflows including surface modeling, cut/fill analysis, and material quantity reporting. Participants advance into intermediate and applied estimating practices, emphasizing model accuracy, quality control, documentation standards, and real‑world bid preparation. The program culminates in an independent capstone takeoff that mirrors production estimating expectations and is evaluated against defined company standards.
The Earthwork Estimator is responsible for producing accurate, complete, and defensible quantity takeoffs that support competitive bidding and successful project execution. This role centers on interpreting civil construction plans and developing detailed earthwork models using AGTEK Gradework, including existing and proposed surfaces, cut/fill analysis, and material quantities. The estimator applies foundational earthwork principles—such as shrink/swell, subgrade, stripping, and overbuild, while ensuring models are correctly set up, cleaned, and validated. In addition to technical modeling, the estimator is accountable for maintaining organized digital project files, performing quality control checks on quantities and assumptions, and generating clear documentation suitable for bidding, internal review, and downstream use by project managers, analysts, and field teams. The role requires a strong understanding of plan intent, attention to detail, and the ability to identify scope gaps, conflicts, or constructability concerns early in the estimating process. Estimators are expected to work independently to company standards, produce repeatable and auditable outputs, and contribute reliable data that forms the foundation of cost modeling, production planning, and field execution.
