Skyfire AI UAS Operator - Internship

Skyfire AI trains transitioning Service members as Drone as First Responder (DFR) operators supporting live public safety operations. Fellows fly real dispatched missions beginning in Week 1 under the direct supervision of a certificated Pilot in Command, and earn an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate at no personal cost. The 13-week program combines academics and on-the-job training on Skyfire AI's C2AI command-and-control platform, culminating in an evaluation. There is no tuition and no cost to the participant. Fellows who complete the syllabus, hold a current Part 107 certificate, and pass the standardization evaluation are eligible for a full-time offer as a Skyfire AI UAS Operator. Two positions are available: one in Huntsville, Alabama and one in Birmingham, Alabama.

DFR programs use unmanned aircraft to enhance community safety by reducing on-scene response times, de-escalating situations, and providing real-time situational awareness to responders and citizens. The UAS Operator flies small unmanned aircraft on dispatched calls for service in support of a public safety agency partner, plans and executes missions using Skyfire AI's C2AI command-and-control platform, and communicates directly with first responders on scene.Duties include: overseeing in-flight aircraft performance to ensure mission safety; maintaining visual contact and airspace awareness during Visual Line of Sight operations; operating within the provisions of applicable FAA Certificates of Waiver during Beyond Visual Line of Sight flights and adhering to FAA regulations governing small unmanned aircraft systems; maintaining radio communication with dispatch, ground units, and air traffic control; completing preflight inspections and airworthiness determinations; troubleshooting aircraft and network systems to sustain mission readiness; and completing required flight documentation and sensor data handling.This is a shift-based, on-site position including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Candidates from other specialties with documented unmanned aircraft or aviation operations experience welcome to apply.

U.S. citizen, able to speak and write English proficiently. Must be able to obtain and hold an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate; Skyfire AI pays all training, examination, and application costs. Current state-issued driver's license required. Must pass a CJIS background check as a condition of site access. Must be available for shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be comfortable working outdoors in conditions ranging from 20°F to 100°F, able to lift 75 lbs, and able to climb stairs unassisted while carrying equipment cases.Prior military unmanned aircraft systems experience is strongly preferred, including UAS operator, sensor operator, RPA, or unmanned aircraft maintenance backgrounds. Experience with DJI M-Series or Parrot Anafi platforms is a plus. Applicants with other aviation operations experience will be considered.Relocation to the training location is the responsibility of the participant; Skyfire AI does not provide relocation assistance.

None. Skyfire AI pays all costs associated with the training program, including FAA Part 107 knowledge examination and certificate application fees, and all flight training costs. No tuition or direct financial cost is imposed on the participant.
