The Montana Highway Patrol (MHP) invites motivated, mission-driven service members to participate in a DOD SkillBridge training opportunity as a Communications Center Call Taker / Dispatcher.Join a team that’s on the front lines of public safety—supporting Troopers, Game Wardens, and emergency responders across Montana. What You’ll Be DoingAs a dispatcher trainee, you’ll learn how to:• Answer and manage emergency and non-emergency calls with confidence and professionalism.• Coordinate critical responses for MHP, Fish, Wildlife & Parks, Motor Carrier Services, Montana Division of Criminal Investigation and Probation & Parole.• Use advanced Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and two-way radios to route assistance where it’s needed most.• Support officer safety by tracking locations, statuses, and managing crisis communications.• Work rotating shifts (day/night) as part of a 24/7/365 team.________________________________________Training OverviewYou’ll be fully immersed in an intensive, hands-on training program that includes:• 2 weeks of orientation• CJIN Certification & Warrant Training• Live Scenario Training• Call Taking & Radio Dispatching (Phases 1–4)Each phase builds your confidence, from call intake to live radio dispatch, all while being supported by experienced Communications Training Officers (CTOs).Training methods include:• Classroom learning• Scenario-based simulations• Computer-based training• Side-by-side coaching with professionals in a live dispatch center________________________________________What You’ll LearnBy the end of this SkillBridge opportunity, you’ll be able to:• Handle emergency calls and dispatch services independently• Operate complex radio and CAD systems• Conduct status checks and ensure officer safety• Navigate Montana’s geography and routing systems• Manage warrants and secure digital recordsCertifications earned:• CJIN (Criminal Justice Information Network)• Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)• CPR Certification• Public Safety Communicator Basic (if hired permanently)________________________________________Who We’re Looking For• Calm under pressure, even during high-stress incidents• Technically skilled and eager to learn dispatch systems• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask• Excellent communication skills• Military experience in high-tempo or command/control environments is a strong fit________________________________________Why Choose This Opportunity?• Be part of a critical mission that directly supports public safety• Build a rewarding civilian skillset with long-term career potential• Transition into law enforcement support with real-world, hands-on experience• Serve your community in a new way, using the leadership and discipline developed during your military service.
