We aim to introduce servicemembers to law enforcement by providing to them the same in-house training our newly hired officers get before attending the police academy. This opportunity will also give servicemembers the chance to complete all of our hiring process during the six-week program, allowing us to extend a conditional job offer at the end of the program.
McPherson Police Officers are required to enforce all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances; protect the life, property, and peace of the citizens of McPherson; make arrests, serve warrants, and issue citations, operate and maintain law enforcement equipment; perform traffic control and building checks; investigate major crimes; build relationships with the public; and provide credible testimony at any court proceedings. This SkillBridge opportunity will expose servicemembers to all of these and will prepare you for a successful career in law enforcement.
For the SkillBridge program, servicemembers must be able to pass an initial background check. To be hired as a law enforcement officer with our department, they must also pass a physical agility test, a written test, and a more in-depth background check before interviewing with the Chief of Police, which are all part of the training plan.
