Security Specialist (0080)
Security Specialists within TSA's SkillBridge program play a pivotal role in helping protect sensitive government operations. Interns will assist in personnel security clearance reviews, physical inspections of facilities, and policy research. They learn and support the evaluation of investigative reports and the adjudication process for clearances. Participants contribute to information security reviews by helping apply classification guidance and securing sensitive data. Interns also assist in reviewing contractor security protocols and inspection preparation under industrial security. They participate in drafting memos, preparing reports, and organizing secure documentation. Assignments may span across multiple security domains, fostering a holistic understanding of TSA’s protective measures. Security Specialists also contribute to awareness efforts by helping with training content and stakeholder communications. They engage in routine contact with internal offices and may support external coordination for inspections and clearances. This program provides hands-on exposure to policies and practices crucial to maintaining national security within the TSA.
A Security Specialist applies experience and detailed knowledge of security program principles, concepts, regulations, and practices, methods and techniques to perform routine, multiple, and varying assignments serving as an individual contributor or team member under the general direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional. Established policies and procedures provide guidance for most assignments, but allow some discretion to select the most appropriate approach. Work and use of resources is reviewed frequently during assignments and at completion. Work supports the accomplishments of the organizational unit with occasional broader impact.
