Clayco - Internship
The Project Engineer SkillBridge Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting Clayco's project management and construction operations teams throughout all phases of commercial construction projects. This role is intended for approved active duty military SkillBridge internship candidates. The intern will assist with project coordination, scheduling, budgeting, document management, and communication between project stakeholders while learning the fundamentals of construction project management. The Project Engineer SkillBridge Intern will collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and owners to help ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget. Additionally, the Project Engineer SkillBridge Intern is expected to work diligently to educate themselves through mentorship from Clayco Project Managers and Operations leadership to prepare for a career in construction project management.
Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and project teams to support all phases of construction project execution while assisting with coordinating project resources and collaborating with operations, safety, quality, engineering, procurement, and project management personnel. Support project planning by helping develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and cost-tracking documentation, while assisting with document control, including submittals, requests for information (RFIs), meeting minutes, project logs, and other project documentation. Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders, and participate in project meetings by helping track action items, project milestones, and deliverables. Support project cost management by assisting with budget tracking, quantity verification, change management, and project reporting, while observing field operations to develop an understanding of construction methods, project sequencing, safety, quality, and schedule performance. Assist with coordinating design activities and communication between project teams throughout the construction process, and develop an understanding of construction operations, project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and project leadership through direct mentorship from Clayco Project Managers and Operations leadership.

Active-duty military members approved to participate in the DoD SkillBridge Program are encouraged to apply. A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Engineering, Architecture, a related field, or equivalent military experience is preferred, along with previous leadership experience in the military, construction industry, or other relevant environments. Candidates should have a strong interest in pursuing a career in construction project management and commercial construction, with demonstrated knowledge of construction principles, practices, and technology preferred. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively with project teams, management, owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, while balancing and prioritizing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement, and above-average proficiency with technology and related resources are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong work ethic and be willing to travel and/or relocate if a full-time offer is extended upon successful completion of the SkillBridge internship. Physical requirements include the ability to walk unlevel terrain and active job sites several times per day, climb ladders, scale scaffolding and temporary stairs multiple stories high, lift at least 50 pounds, and work regularly in areas with elevated noise levels. Successful candidates will be motivated, hardworking, team-oriented, and eager to learn.
The internship opportunities are project-based and may be located anywhere within the United States. While each SkillBridge internship will be completed at a single project location, candidates should be willing to travel and/or relocate if offered full-time employment upon successful completion of the internship.Please include a resume with your application and indicate your preferred internship availability dates.
