The Yorktown Baptist Church DoD SkillBridge Pastoral Apprenticeship exists to equip transitioning service members for faithful service in the local church through discipleship, family ministry, and biblical counseling. Through intentional pastoral mentorship, biblical instruction, and participation in the life of the church, the apprenticeship seeks to form servant-hearted leaders grounded in God’s Word, committed to shepherding individuals and families, and prepared to make disciples who walk faithfully with Christ. Yorktown Baptist Church is honored to partner with the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program to provide a structured pastoral apprenticeship that supports the transition from military service to civilian life while offering guided ministry training, theological development, and preparation for future leadership within local church settings.

Roles & job description

This pastoral apprenticeship takes place within the life and ministry of the local church, with a focus on discipleship, family ministry, and biblical counseling. The apprentice will serve alongside pastors and ministry leaders, participating in discipleship efforts, family ministry, and pastoral care, while observing and assisting in biblical counseling under supervision. The role includes supporting teaching preparation, ministry planning, and relational follow-up with individuals and families. The purpose of the apprenticeship is to help the participant grow in shepherding skills, ministry discernment, and spiritual maturity through faithful service and intentional pastoral mentorship.
