CAD Technician
The Vantage Point Solutions SkillBridge program provides transitioning service members with hands-on training in Construction Design and outside plant (OSP) fiber network design. This program is designed to develop job-ready skills through a structured combination of classroom instruction and on-the-job training led by experienced industry professionals.Participants will learn the full Construction Design workflow, including project lifecycle understanding, routing and layout standards, and the use of industry tools such as Google Earth, Earth Point, and vDesign. Training progresses from foundational concepts to practical application, where trainees complete real-world routing exercises and a full simulated design project based on actual construction data.Throughout the program, participants gain experience in project setup, pre-staking, staking, and post-staking processes, while developing critical skills in data accuracy, system navigation, and quality control. Emphasis is placed on interpreting design requirements, applying standards, and independently validating work to ensure construction-ready deliverables.By the end of the program, participants will have the knowledge and practical experience necessary to contribute to fiber design projects in a professional setting, preparing them for entry-level roles in Construction Design and OSP engineering support.
he CAD Technician is an entry-level role responsible for supporting the design team in creating accurate and high-quality construction design documents. Working under the guidance of a Construction Design Team Lead, the Technician assists with drafting, redline implementation, quality checks, and project documentation. This role provides foundational exposure to the OSP design process, offering an opportunity to develop technical skills, gain familiarity with permitting and entity requirements, and grow into higher-level positions within the department.
