Cemetery Director/Assistant Director
Cemetery Directors and Assistant Directors are the frontline leaders in the National Cemetery Administration (NCA). They play a critical role in the delivery of burial benefits and memorial programs services within NCA. They oversee the day-to-day operations of a national cemetery and are responsible for the operation and maintenance of national cemeteries as national shrines as well as the interment and memorialization of the Nation’s Veterans, service members and eligible family members. All new NCA Cemetery Directors and Assistant Directors participate in a tailored training program (Cemetery Director Certification Program) whose curriculum focuses on leadership, facility management and interment operations to prepare employees in these critical leadership positions with the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful and advance within NCA.
The Cemetery Director and Cemetery Assistant Director are responsible for developing and implementing local administrative, financial, and other resources, human capital, and management policies. The Cemetery Director and Cemetery Assistant Director oversee the planning, programming, coordinating, and directing the administration and operation of the National Cemetery. The preferred skills for the Cemetery Director and Cemetery Assistant Director position are: • Knowledge of federal, agency and department regulations, operational systems and procedures • Oral, written, and customer communication skills • Attention to details to evaluate and analyze issues and programs as well as plan and organize solutions • Excellent leadership skills • Ability to cope under stressful situations as well as handle complex and multiple assignments • Willingness to learn and advance career • Strong work ethic and reliability.
