Cloud Business Process Specialist Intern
As part of the DoD Skillbridge Training program, the primary focus of this role is to analyze, map, and redesign IT business processes as operations transition from on-premises to the cloud, while concurrently evaluating civil service staff roles and formulating new contractor performance requirements. The intern will operate on a 40-hour weekly schedule, engaging in virtual synchronous architecture reviews, live process mapping workshops, and hands-on cloud sandbox configurations under the daily guidance of a senior mentor.
Position OverviewThis internship prepares transitioning service members for a successful career in a civilian, cloud-centric business process role. Paired directly with a Senior NCEI IT Lead / Cloud Architect or Program Manager, the intern will gain extensive hands-on enterprise cloud migration experience while building a foundational knowledge base toward industry certifications, such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or CompTIA Cloud+.Key ResponsibilitiesOver the course of the 12-week program, the intern will develop skills and execute tasks across the following operational areas:Business Process Reengineering (BPR): Study process mapping methodologies, Cloud Service Models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), and legacy on-premises workflows to transition enterprise data silos into cloud architectures.Process Mapping & Analysis: Independently draft current-state process maps and identify operational bottlenecks within legacy workflows.Workforce Transformation: Evaluate civil service staff roles, analyze workforce competency frameworks, conduct skills gap analyses, and identify the training tracks needed to transition personnel from hardware upkeep to cloud governance.Change Management & Documentation: Structure, evaluate, update, and draft comprehensive operational updates, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and step-by-step work instructions (WI) to bridge dependencies between infrastructure, security, and data teams.Cloud Economics & FinOps: Train in cloud workload estimation, calculate total cost of ownership (TCO), and translate reengineered cloud processes into formal contractor requirements, Performance Work Statements (PWS), and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).Practical Procurement Application: Take a new cloud operational requirement from inception to completion by drafting a mock procurement request and budget estimate under direct supervision.
