Program summary

This is a developmental position re-engineered at less than the full performance level for recruitment and training purposes. The duties of the position are similar to those of the target grade WG-4749-07. Performs entry-level work with assignments designed to provide the competencies, skills, and experience required to perform the more complex work at the full performance grade level. The work increases in difficulty, complexity, and responsibility as the incumbent gains experience and demonstrates a full comprehension of assigned work. Temporary Duty (TDY) may be authorized.

Roles & job description

Maintenance Worker - Perform inspections, repairs, and maintenance of dams, levees, and recreation facilities to ensure safety and operational readiness. Operate and maintain landscape equipment, including small lawn care tools and tractors, to perform field grass and slope mowing for infrastructure upkeep. Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical work. Assist with flood risk management by inspecting dam slopes, monitoring weather conditions, and performing dam tower security checks. Support recreation management by maintaining campgrounds, trails, and other public-use areas. Collaborate with team members and volunteers to ensure the preservation of natural resources and the functionality of recreational facilities.

The Baltimore District headquarters is located at 2 Hopkins Place in Baltimore, Maryland. Centrally located in downtown Baltimore and a short walking distance to the historic Baltimore Inner Harbor and Lexington Market.
