Program summary

TUTORWORKS' mission is to make learning robust, effective, and fun using a hybrid learning approach that leverages superior educational platforms and innovative adaptive AI-based software platforms. Our academic services devision delivers classes and programming virtually and onsite at K-8 schools in California. Our software development division builds adaptive, research-based software and games that work effectively in authentic educational and operational environments to help people acquire skills and thrive in life. We are a small team of committed educators and developers striving to make a tangible impact in learning outcomes. Each SkillBridge participant will be a member of the Admin Team, Program Team, and/or Technical Team. Each group is a collaborative, cross functional team responsible for successful implementation of academic tutoring programs and the development of serious games and educational software. Based on the location of the SkillBridge participant, the work will be conducted remotely or as a hybrid of remote work and work on local school campuses. Admin Team SkillBridge participants will act as executive assistants, gaining experience to a wide variety of administrative tasks required to manage and operate a small business. An example task would be to participate in weekly admin meetings and contribute to problem solving operations issues. Program Team SkillBridge participants will act as onsite coordinator or remote instructors at our school sites, gaining experience in teaching and managing public school-based programs. An example task would be to deliver daily tutoring sessions as an onsite coordinator or remote tutor. Technical Team Participants participants with adequate technical or software development skills will assist with the development of educational software or serious games. An example task would be to create game world assets to be used in serious game development.

Eligibility notes

Must have a bachelor's degree or be actively pursuing a bachelor's degree and have relevant experience.

Additional notes

We have very strong remote support systems for all of our staff. Program staff meet daily prior to every tutoring session and after every tutoring session to plan and debrief daily challenges. Technical and Admin teams meet multiple times a week in ad hoc and scheduled planning meetings. We believe we could provide a supportive environment for SkillBridge participants that is also demanding and challenging, offering a rich professional transition experience from military to industry.
