USAFUSAUSCGUSMCUSNUSSF
Program summary

WorkEx is an approved national wide DOW SkillBridge/Career Skills Program (CSP) based out of Joint Base Lewis-MChord in Washington State. It is designed to introduce transitioning Service members to industry requirements while gaining hands-on experience and meeting specific employer needs through customized Cohort internships. It is a fast-track, on-site training opportunity that leads to a guaranteed job interview for the participant and allows employers to be confident that the service member is a good fit. WorkEx Military provide the information and tools needed to establish an internship during your last 180 days of service prior to ETS or retirement. Service member's are required to do career exploration to determine your interests, build a professional network, and reach out to organizations of interest to establish an internship. WorkEx will work with both the Service member and the organization to build an internship and complete the necessary paperwork required for command approval to launch Service members into a new experience, in a new company culture. Service members may also apply for an existing internship through the WorkEx Military website, or work with a member of our team to create a customized opportunity with one of our vetted and approved Partner Employers. We will work with both you and the organization to build an internship, complete the necessary paperwork required for command approval, and get you started on jumping into a new experience, in a new company culture.

Roles & job description

WorkEx Military is a completely customizable Cohort internship program. Service members have 3 pathways for internships through WorkEx Military. 1) Service members may bring us an organization and opportunity they have created on our own. Our team will interview, vet, and formally approve or deny those opportunities based on our strict standards and DOD policy requirements. 2) Service members may apply for any open internship opportunities on our website. 3) Service members may work directly with a member of our team to create and design their own internship with a vetted Partner Employer of WorkEx. WorkEx Military focuses on developing relationships and facilitating partnerships with employers in in-demand industries across the country that are projected to experience growth in the coming years. A majority of WorkEx Military Partner Employers are in Healthcare, IT, Manufacturing, Transportation and Logistics, Aerospace, Local Government/State Agencies, Environment Conservation, Construction, Engineering, Marketing/Media and more.

Interview prep for this program
Ask them
  • ▸ "How many of your past SkillBridge interns received full-time offers?" — a serious program knows the number.
  • ▸ "Who will my day-to-day mentor be, and what does week one look like?"
  • ▸ "The listing says 91 - 120 days — can that flex to my approved window if my command shortens it?"
  • ▸ "How do virtual interns stay visible to hiring managers — what worked for past cohorts?"
  • ▸ Confirm the eligibility notes above — ask exactly what they need from you and when.
Bring to the conversation
  • ✓ Your projected start window and separation date (from your profile)
  • ✓ Your command's approval status — even "packet drafted" signals you're serious
  • ✓ Your civilian-translated resume bullets (generate them here)
  • ✓ A written training-plan ask — you'll need it for your packet anyway
