Program summary

This training prepares the participant to perform essential technical, operational, analytical, and customer support functions commonly performed within State of Nevada Information Technology organizations.Training emphasizes enterprise technology support, customer service, hardware and software lifecycle management, systems administration, networking fundamentals, cybersecurity awareness, information systems support, technical documentation, project participation, and government technology operations.The internship provides practical exposure to enterprise information technology within a government environment while developing the technical knowledge, analytical abilities, communication skills, and professional competencies necessary for successful civilian employment.This curriculum is designed to support internship opportunities aligned with both the Information Technology Technician and Information Technology Professional class series. Depending upon agency assignment, participants may receive additional exposure to specialized technologies, infrastructure, software applications, networking, cybersecurity, cloud services, or enterprise systems while maintaining the core learning objectives established within this curriculum.

Roles & job description

Information Technology Technicians and Professionals provide technical support for State computer systems, hardware, software, networks, and enterprise technology services. Duties may include troubleshooting hardware and software issues, configuring and deploying computers and other devices, supporting users and enterprise applications, assisting with systems and account administration, maintaining technology assets, documenting technical issues, supporting cybersecurity practices, and participating in technology projects and system improvements. Participants progress from supervised technical support activities toward increasingly independent information technology operations and customer support responsibilities.

Target military occupations

Army: 25B Information Technology Specialist; 25H Network Communication Systems Specialist; 25S Satellite Communication Systems Operator-Maintainer; 25U Signal Operations Support Specialist; 17C Cyber Operations Specialist. Navy: IT Information Systems Technician; CWT Cyber Warfare Technician; selected CTM/Cryptologic Technician Maintenance backgrounds; Information Professional / communications-network officer backgrounds. Navy ITs directly manage networks and communications systems, while CWTs work in network defense, vulnerability assessment, incident response, and cyber operations. Air Force / Space Force: 1D7X1 Cyber Defense Operations and its current specialty shreds/variants covering systems, networks, security, client systems, and mission defense. The Air Force describes 1D7X1 as supporting information systems, communications equipment, networks, sensors, and intrusion-detection systems. Marine Corps: 06XX Communications occupational field, especially network, data systems, cyber/network administration, and information-systems specialties; 17XX Cyberspace Operations specialties would also fit. Coast Guard: IT Information Systems Technician; potentially Cyber Mission Specialist and closely related electronics/network-support ratings where the member's actual duties involved enterprise systems, networking, cybersecurity, or user support.
