Program summary

The Assistant Superintendent SkillBridge program prepares transitioning service members for a career in commercial construction field supervision. Participants will be embedded in RCG’s field operations team on active construction projects, working directly alongside experienced RCG Superintendents. Training is primarily field-based and emphasizes hands-on learning in healthcare, education, and commercial renovation environments.

Roles & job description

The Assistant Superintendent supports RCG’s field Superintendents in the daily management and execution of commercial construction projects. This is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for trade coordination, quality control, safety enforcement, documentation, and crew oversight on active job sites. The Assistant Superintendent is on the ground every day, ensuring work progresses safely, on schedule, and to the quality standards RCG and its clients expect. This is a growth-track position for individuals with the drive and discipline to advance to Superintendent.Key ResponsibilitiesField Supervision & Trade Coordination• Assist the Superintendent in directing daily operations of subcontractors and self-perform crews on active job sites• Conduct morning briefings with subcontractor foremen; assign daily tasks and targets aligned to the project schedule• Monitor subcontractor progress against the 2-week look-ahead schedule and report variances to the Superintendent• Conduct and document pre-installation meetings before work begins on each new scope of work• Coordinate trade sequencing to eliminate conflicts and maintain workflow efficiency across all active scopesSafety Management• Enforce RCG’s site safety program and all applicable OSHA standards daily• Conduct and document job hazard analyses (JHAs) and daily safety observations• Deliver weekly toolbox talks and ensure all workers on site attend and sign in• Immediately document and report any near-miss events, incidents, or injuries to the Superintendent and PM• Ensure all personnel are properly credentialed, badged, and equipped with required PPE before accessing the siteQuality Control & Documentation• Perform in-process quality inspections against project specifications and design drawings• Maintain accurate and complete daily logs in Procore: manpower counts, weather conditions, work performed, and visitors• Document delays, changed conditions, and non-conformances with photographs and written records• Manage punch list development and completion tracking through Procore• Coordinate building department inspections and ensure site readiness prior to each inspectionHealthcare Construction & ICRA Compliance• Install, maintain, and inspect Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) barriers per Class I–IV permit requirements• Enforce Interim Life Safety Measure (ILSM) requirements throughout the project duration in occupied facilities• Manage negative air pressure equipment, HEPA filtration units, and worker entry/exit decontamination protocols• Coordinate directly with hospital Facilities and Infection Control departments on compliance matters• Prepare for and support Joint Commission Environment of Care inspections related to construction activitiesScheduling & Material Management• Prepare and update 2-week look-ahead schedules; maintain master schedule updates in coordination with the Superintendent• Coordinate material deliveries with subcontractors; manage lay-down areas, material staging, and site logistics• Track material receipts against purchase orders and document any shortages or damage in Procore• Manage site cleanliness, waste removal, and material accountability to maintain an organized and safe job sitePreferred Qualifications• High school diploma or GED required• 2+ years of hands-on commercial construction experience in a field supervision or foreman capacity• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification (OSHA 30 strongly preferred)• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings including architectural, structural, and MEP documents• Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to direct and motivate multi-trade crews• Valid driver’s license (Required) and reliable transportation; ability to travel to project sites throughout the Carolinas• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification• Experience with Procore or BuilderTrend field documentation tools• Healthcare construction experience including ICRA protocol management in occupied facilities• Experience on federal, VA, or government construction projects• Military service or experience in a high-accountability, mission-driven leadership environment• First Aid / CPR certificationCore Competencies• Field Leadership & Crew Direction • Problem-Solving Under Pressure• Safety Culture & OSHA Compliance • Clear & Direct Communication• Quality Control & Attention to Detail • Accountability & Follow-Through• Construction Drawing Interpretation • Healthcare/ICRA Protocol Enforcement• Trade Coordination & Sequencing • Physical Stamina & Site PresenceWork Environment & Physical RequirementsThis is a field-based position requiring daily presence on active commercial construction job sites. The role involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions, construction noise, dust, and physical activity including standing, walking, climbing ladders, and lifting materials up to 50 lbs. All applicable OSHA PPE requirements must be observed at all times. Assignment location varies by project; local and regional travel throughout the Carolinas is required.
