Metallurgist Apprenticeship Program
We are the industry’s leading experts in metallurgy and forging to build a foundational skillset for future careers. Our plan will give Skillbridge candidates working exposure to forging, heavy equipment operation, metallurgy, and quality in some of the industry’s most critical markets such as nuclear, defense, shipbuilding, aerospace. Our organization has been tasked with solving tough problems such as converting complexcastings and welded assemblies to single piece forgings, creating our country’s next generation of hull alloys, andmany others.
Through hands on work in real roles, you will learn forging processes, techniques, equipment, team, and culture which is at the center of this experience. Forging is an industry with unique processes that are dependent on skilled operators with a lot ofexperience and knowledge. Once that foundationalknowledge of forging basics is built, we will start to transition into other areas while continuously integrating the skillslearned from the forge. Heat treat is another core competency to our business. Combining how our forging and heat treat processes result in the material properties we’re looking for will be fundamental when starting to gain exposure to our quality, lab, and engineering processes. You will be spending one month in the forge working on each of the three presses – 16,500 ton, 5,500 ton, and our 3,000 ton. Each press and press crew is unique, working with a wide variety of parts from the reactor pressure vessels for the S1B reactor onboard Columbia class submarines to structural components for the SpaceX Starship and its engines. You will be hands on with the crew learning how to forge and operate the equipment. You will transition spending a month with our forge engineering team helping to improve forge time utilization – maximizing time on press in critical temperature states to improve mechanical properties, particularly for materials that are sensitive to the forging process. This will give him exposure to how our forging processes and tooling get designed and how metallurgy integrates directly into what our forge crews do. During this, you will get exposure with our heat treat department as you follow these materials through the process into the lab. Next, our company will be looking into developing a position for a material scientist who has a broad knowledge base in forge, heat treat, and nondestructive examination. FAST (Future Alloy Study & Testing Center) is a DOD funded lab for developing new advanced alloys to protect our warfighters. You will support some experiments that are combining the three specialties to dial in the relationships those have on ultrasonic inspection results. Lastly, you will get hands-on experience with our NDE team and lab working on these samples.

Interview prep for this program▸
- ▸ "How many of your past SkillBridge interns received full-time offers?" — a serious program knows the number.
- ▸ "Who will my day-to-day mentor be, and what does week one look like?"
- ▸ "The listing says 91 - 120 days — can that flex to my approved window if my command shortens it?"
- ▸ "Is relocation expected for a full-time offer, or can I convert where I am?"
- ▸ Confirm the eligibility notes above — ask exactly what they need from you and when.
- ✓ Your projected start window and separation date (from your profile)
- ✓ Your command's approval status — even "packet drafted" signals you're serious
- ✓ Your civilian-translated resume bullets (generate them here)
- ✓ A written training-plan ask — you'll need it for your packet anyway
