USAFUSAUSCGUSMCUSNUSSFSix SigmaOSHA
Program summary

The Logistics Engineer is responsible for designing, optimizing, and implementing efficient logistics systems and processes to support the company's supply chain operations. This role applies engineering principles to enhance transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and distribution networks, ensuring cost reduction, improved reliability, and scalability. Ideal for transitioning service members with military engineering or logistics backgrounds, this position leverages skills in systems design, simulation, and operational efficiency to address civilian sector challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Roles & job description

Design and model logistics systems using engineering software (e.g., simulation tools like Arena or AutoMod) to optimize workflows, layouts, and resource allocation. Analyze supply chain processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for automation or redesign. Develop and implement process improvements, including lean engineering, Six Sigma methodologies, and ergonomic considerations for warehouses and distribution centers. Conduct feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments for new logistics projects or technologies (e.g., RFID, IoT integration). Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., operations, IT, procurement) to integrate engineering solutions into overall business strategies. Oversee the testing and validation of logistics systems, including transportation routing, inventory control algorithms, and material handling equipment. Ensure compliance with engineering standards, regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT), and sustainability goals in system designs. Prepare technical reports, blueprints, and documentation for logistics infrastructure projects. Support continuous improvement initiatives through data-driven engineering analyses and prototype development. Mentor junior staff and participate in audits or vendor evaluations for engineering-related logistics components.

Interview prep for this program
Ask them
  • ▸ "How many of your past SkillBridge interns received full-time offers?" — a serious program knows the number.
  • ▸ "Who will my day-to-day mentor be, and what does week one look like?"
  • ▸ "The listing says 61 - 90 days — can that flex to my approved window if my command shortens it?"
  • ▸ "Is relocation expected for a full-time offer, or can I convert where I am?"
Bring to the conversation
  • ✓ Your projected start window and separation date (from your profile)
  • ✓ Your command's approval status — even "packet drafted" signals you're serious
  • ✓ Your civilian-translated resume bullets (generate them here)
  • ✓ A written training-plan ask — you'll need it for your packet anyway
