This document outlines the training plan for servicemembers with strong electrical or electronic mechanical backgrounds, or supervisory roles in the same, to participate in the SkillBridge program at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY). The program's objective is to equip participants with the necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) to efficiently and effectively perform the duties of a WG-10 Electrician, WG-11 Electronics Mechanic, WS-10 Supervisor, or WS-12 General Foreman at NNSY. This comprehensive training program utilizes a blended learning approach incorporating classroom instruction, hands-on exercises, and on-the-job training (OJT). Each training period will conclude with an assessment of the intern's KSA, ensuring mastery of the curriculum. For individuals possessing advanced skill sets and demonstrable leadership experience, the tailored training plan outlined below extends past the mechanic’s 13-week training to a 17-week training, designed to leverage their existing expertise and accelerate their development.WG-10 and WG-11 Training ObjectivesUpon successful completion of this SkillBridge program, participants will be able to:• Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of fundamental electrical and electronic principles.• Safely and effectively utilize standard electrical and electronic test equipment.• Interpret and apply electrical and electronic schematics and blueprints.• Perform routine maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting on electrical and electronic systems.• Adhere to all applicable safety regulations and procedures.• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of hand tools and power tools relevant to the trade.• Collaborate effectively within a team environment to achieve common goals.• Understand and apply NNSY specific policies and procedures related to the electrical/electronics trades, including jobsite risk assessment through understanding the OSHE 230 and 250.

Job Title: Electrician WG-10Job Summary: As an electrician, the incumbent performs job operations/tasks on conventional and nuclear ships and submarines. Duties include performing installation of new equipment, diagnostic and preventative maintenance inspections, repairs, parts replacement, and overhaul of ships systems, controls, and instrumentation. The incumbent will layout work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, and oral instructions; utilize trade methods and processes to ensure conformance to requirements. As an NNSY electrician, the incumbent may:• Install wireways, cable racks, and associated cabling to interconnect ships power, communications, lighting, fire control, instrumentation and other electrical systems. • Install cabinets, enclosures, controller consoles and various other electrical equipment as integral parts of ships systems.• Repair or replace damaged electrical components/assemblies• Troubleshoot faulty systems/circuitry to identify problem areas and initiates action to commence repairs.• Work with test directors to test electrical systems using blueprints, technical manuals and test procedures to ensure adequate operational performance in accordance with the specified guidelines.• Be able to understand shop electrical safety policies and demonstrate how to set up energized electrical test boundary and energized work checklist boundary.Job Title: Electronics Mechanic WG-11Job Summary: As an electronics mechanic, the incumbent performs job operations/tasks on conventional and nuclear ships and submarines. They will be required to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, sketches, drawings, and electrical schematics, as well as utilize test equipment such as multimeters, insulation resistance meters, ammeters, signal/pulse generators, oscilloscopes, frequency counters and power supplies. Additionally, the incumbent will utilize trade methods and processed to ensure conformance to requirements which often involves a solid working knowledge of mathematics, as well as utilize shipboard installation techniques and processes to install associated cabling to interconnect ships power, communications, lighting, fire control, instrumentation, and other electrical/electronic equipment as integral parts of ships systems. As an NNSY electronics mechanic, duties may include:• Repair or replace damaged components/assemblies.• Troubleshoot faulty systems/circuits to identify problem areas and initiate action to comment repairs.• Work with test directors to test electrical systems using blueprints, technical manuals and test procedures to ensure adequate operational performance in accordance with the specified guidelines.• Install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex electronics equipment and a complete operational systems consisting of numerous complex integral components which require knowledge of a wide range of electronics principles and practices, including jobsite risk assessment through understanding the OSHE 230 and 250.

You must be a US Citizen, be able to gain a Security Clearance, pass a background check, and potentially pass a drug screening. This position is on location at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA.
