Research TechnologistLength of internship: 25 weeksLocations Available: Phoenix, AZ;Position OverviewSets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of labgoals, grant commitments, i.e., assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes, and suggests modifications.Collects, enters, and summarizes data. Assists in the maintenance of labequipment and supplies. Performs basic statistical data analysis; preparestables/charts/graphs and assists in organizing data.QualificationsMinimum Education and/or Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in biology,chemistry, or other relevant science. Experience with basic data analysis required.

Training Program Week 1 Introduction to Mayo Clinic and Research Shield Mayo Clinic and Research Shield new employee orientation Secure computer & application access Safety and regulatory online training Site tour and introduction to PI (Dr. K. Khazaie PhD), lab staff, Education Specialist, and Research Administration Overview of training objectives and begin shadowing Goals: Complete all orientation modules and meet and greets Shadow PI and lab staff to obtain basic understanding of workflow expectations Weekly meeting with PI Week 2 – 24 Immersion in the Research Technician Role Work with PI/lab staff to learn the specifics of the assigned role, including development of: Laboratory Bench Skills General Research Skills and Creativity Experiment design, analytical skills, problem-solving and troubleshooting, setting priorities and time management, developing new research directions Professional Skills Oral presentations, manuscript writing, grant writing, teaching and mentoring skills, interpersonal and leadership skills Scientific Knowledge Attend relevant seminars and presentations offered by the Mayo Clinic Department of Immunology, including Visiting Faculty Seminar Series, lab meetings, and Journal Clubs Content specific in-person and online educational opportunities to reinforce developing skills Rotation to other labs, core facilities based upon individual goals Goals: Demonstrate working knowledge of processes and procedures in a research laboratory Receive training in laboratory skills including data collection, organization, analysis and interpretation Engage in collaboration opportunities with basic scientists and clinicians Generate data Develop necessary skills for a future career in a research laboratory setting Participate in rotations to other labs, core facilities, vivarium based upon individual career goals Ongoing Evaluation Weekly meeting with PI Monthly presentation of results in lab meeting Revision of goals and plan appropriate timeline for reaching those goals Week 25 Complete SkillBridge Internship and Evaluation Evaluate the intern’s progress towards established goals. Daily Routine: Shift: Monday-Friday Hours: Based upon deparment need Unless otherwise stated, daily shifts are Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. Lunches and breaks are planned around workload. Attire & PPE: Attire complies with the Mayo Clinic Dress and Decorum Policy. Modified Business Casual Employees who work in a limited number of exclusively non-patient-interaction units and positions, such as a subset of staff in Research, at sites/building devoted to non-patient-interaction activities, must make choices on clothing, grooming and accessories that adhere to general standards. Clothing of denim material (jeans) is permitted if in good condition, without fraying, holes, soiling or designs that create the appearance of these features. The scrub suit option remains available to eligible laboratory staff. Work-out type clothing, sweatpants, sweatshirts, and t-shirts (except as undershirts) are not permitted. Closed toe-shoes only are allowed in the lab. When responsibilities during any given day include or might include both non-patient and patient-interaction areas, employees must follow standards consistent with their responsibilities in the patient care unit. Necessary PPE will be supplied by Mayo Clinic
