Program summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections on county facilities, equipment, and infrastructure. Duties include troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, conducting preventive maintenance, and ensuring that all systems operate efficiently and safely. This role requires hands-on problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to support county operations.

Maintenance Technician – Job DutiesEssential Duties & ResponsibilitiesFacility Maintenance & RepairsPerform preventive maintenance and routine repairs on county buildings, facilities, and equipment.Inspect machinery, mechanical systems, and structural components for defects and troubleshoot issues.Repair and replace plumbing fixtures, including sinks, toilets, leaking pipes, and clogged drains.Install, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, outlets, lighting fixtures, and other electrical systems.Maintain HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, and boilers, ensuring optimal performance.Carpentry, Painting, & Structural WorkInstall and replace doors, windows, glass panels, wall paneling, and shelving.Build forms for concrete, pour and finish concrete, and perform minor masonry work.Perform painting and surface finishing on walls, ceilings, and equipment as needed.Equipment & GroundskeepingOperate power tools, saws, drills, sanders, and other construction equipment.Maintain and operate heavy machinery, including loaders, sweepers, mowers, dump trucks, and tractors.Perform landscaping duties such as mowing lawns, trimming shrubbery, and cultivating flower beds.Event Setup & Facility SupportPrepare buildings, rodeo arenas, fairgrounds, and event spaces for various county activities.Set up and tear down tables, chairs, stages, risers, and other event equipment.Secure and open facilities before and after scheduled events.Assist tenants and event organizers by providing technical support and facility expertise.General & Specialized TasksAssist skilled contract workers and move materials as needed.Weld, cut, and solder within safety guidelines when required.Supervise work-release crews, community service workers, and volunteers when applicable.Respond to emergency maintenance calls and be available for on-call duties, including nights and weekends.Other Duties as AssignedPerform custodial functions when required.Notify management of necessary major repairs or equipment replacements.Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and supply inventory.
