Program summary

The position assists the Director of the Veterans Center and provides visionary leadership and strategic planning for the Joseph A. Marshall Veterans Center at Bristol Community College. The position provides campus expertise related to military veterans as a component of institutional diversity, as well as on opportunities to serve in the United States military. Primary responsibility is advising and supporting military-affiliated students (students who have served, are serving, or are interested in serving in the United States military), dependents of United States military veterans, and international students who have or are serving in the militaries of other nations.

Roles & job description

Among other activities, the position partners with various admission and recruitment staffs to recruit veteran applicants; develops campus and local networks to ensure information about opportunities is available; coordinates programs and develops Web, print, and social media communications; and collaborates with various offices (e.g., Women's Center, Multicultural Student Center, Office of Disability Services, Advising, and Admissions, etc.) to develop policies and practices that are veteran-friendly and support student veteran leadership on and off campus. The Director develops learning outcomes for students involved with the center’s programs and initiatives, assessment of programs and services, and provides outreach and support for students. Knowledge of Veterans Affairs education benefits and veteran scholarships will be gained as well as partnership with Student Veterans of America, Warrior Scholar Project, Service to School, local Massachusetts Veterans Agents, and community partners. The position bridges the military affiliated learner, VA legal compliance, and regular college administration.

Additional notes

The position will also be familiarized with Veterans Affairs School Certifying Official (SCO) duties as well as other programs and initiatives designed for transitioning service members and their dependents.
