Welder I - Internship

Program summary

Welder: Are you the type of person who moves quickly, is independent and adapts well to new and different situations? In this role you will use welding skills to include fit-up, tacking and welding of cast, machined, forged and fabricated steel components to assemble industrial equipment. We’re looking for dedicated team members with a drive to build the best.

Roles & job description

Vermeer Corporation: 1. Complete weldments in various welding positions according to blueprints and welding procedure specifications using GMAW-P by following Vermeer Welding Standards. 2. Position, align and fit components together utilizing fixturing. Bolt, clamp and tack weld parts to secure in position for welding according to blueprints and welding procedure specifications. 3. Set and operate an OFC oxyfuel torch for preheating safely and efficiently. 4. Perform regular and routine maintenance on welding equipment. 5. Support 5S/workplace organization goals of the department and offer suggestions and make improvements that achieve the department’s performance board metrics.

Target military occupations

Open to all MOS / ratings / AFSCs.

Eligibility notes

By the end of the training, the learner will be able to: 1. Recognize and demonstrate safe work habits. 2. Interpret weld symbols. 3. Interpret blueprints for welding 4. Define the correct weld machine settings based on material thickness 5. Recognize and reproduce welds to meet Vermeer quality acceptance criteria standards. In addition to passing the final exam, each trainee must pass all three GMAW-P certifications (1G-UL, 3F, 4F) to successfully complete Weld Training and work at Vermeer as a welder. Failure to pass the certifications may result in being assessed and trained in a different manufacturing discipline. Provides Service Members opportunities to learn new skills while using their knowledge, skills and abilities obtained from the military. A mentor/job coach will provide guidance and support for our clients to be successfully employed at Vermeer and participate in the community
