Veterans will benefit from small class sizes, personalized instruction, and real-world driving practice in both automatic and manual (10-speed) transmissions.Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Certificate program is a hands-on, competency-based training designed for those wanting to start a career as a truck driver. Holding a Class A license allows you to operate most tractor-trailers weighing over 26,001 pounds or towing over 10,000 pounds. It is the most common CDL option, particularly for over-the-road truck drivers.
This CDL training program prepares Veterans for a career in commercial truck driving by combining federally required ELDT Theory with practical, hands-on training. Student will be expected to complete assigned reading each night, vehicle Inspection, Basic Vehicle Control Skills, and On-road Driving. The majority of class time will be dedicated to hands on practice and observation.This program provides:• Necessary instruction needed to pass the Theory exam required for Entry Level Driver Training.• Skills required to perform equipment inspections as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).• Basic skills in backing and maneuvering the equipment to conform to the CDL testing requirements• Skills needed to pass the CDL public road driving test.• Theory: FMCSA-mandated topics including driver qualifications, safe operation, hours of service, trip planning, cargo handling, vehicle inspections, and accident procedures.• Skills Lab & Range Training: Backing, turning, coupling/uncoupling, shifting, pre-trip inspections, and control exercises.• Behind-the-Wheel Road Training: Real-world driving experience in both urban and rural settings under instructor supervision.Opportunities in Keokuk, Iowa and Burlington Iowa
