Captain - Vessel Operation & Navigation: Steering, maneuvering, plotting courses, using radar/depth finders, docking/undocking, and altering plans for weather. Safety & Compliance: Enforcing USCG standards, conducting safety drills, emergency preparedness, and ensuring adherence to local/federal laws. Crew Management: Commanding, supervising, training, and assigning tasks to deckhands and crew members. Vessel Maintenance: Overseeing equipment upkeep, ordering supplies, arranging repairs, and reading gauges. Logistics: Managing cargo/passenger loading/unloading, purchasing supplies, and coordinating with shore support. Record Keeping: Maintaining detailed logs of activities, positions, weather, fuel, and maintenance. Mate - Navigation: Planning routes, maintaining charts, monitoring progress, and taking the helm. Seamanship: Handling lines, rigging, and small boat operations. Deck Operations: Overseeing general deck maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep. Safety & Emergency: Ensuring equipment (fire, lifeboats) works and administering first aid. Leadership: Supervising crew, training, and being prepared to act as captain.
Fishing Captain/mate.
