USAFUSAUSCGUSMCUSNUSSFEMT
Program summary

Participants will apply for and become Interns in the Houston Fire Department. Participants will receive 10 weeks of EMT school and then, all things considered, receive conditional job offers and continue to fire school as a paid cadet of the Houston Fire Department. After fire school applicants will then be sent to a station for their probationary firefighter period to begin their career serving Houston in the capacity of a Probationary Houston Firefighter/EMT.

Roles & job description

The Houston Fire Department exists to enhance the public safety paradigm for the City of Houston – its residents, industries, and infrastructure. Firefighters have an integral role in achieving the HFD’s mission to save lives, property, and serve the community. Firefighters in the HFD respond to emergencies such as wildland and structure fires, hazardous materials incidents, motor vehicle extrications, and high-water rescues. Representing a uniquely hazardous occupation, service as a Houston Firefighter requires an uncommon commitment to personal sacrifice in deference to the public good

Additional notes

All schooling will be done at the Val Janke Training Center located at 8030 Braniff St, Houston, Tx 77061

Interview prep for this program
Ask them
  • ▸ "How many of your past SkillBridge interns received full-time offers?" — a serious program knows the number.
  • ▸ "Who will my day-to-day mentor be, and what does week one look like?"
  • ▸ "The listing says 61 - 90 days — can that flex to my approved window if my command shortens it?"
  • ▸ "Is relocation expected for a full-time offer, or can I convert where I am?"
Bring to the conversation
  • ✓ Your projected start window and separation date (from your profile)
  • ✓ Your command's approval status — even "packet drafted" signals you're serious
  • ✓ Your civilian-translated resume bullets (generate them here)
  • ✓ A written training-plan ask — you'll need it for your packet anyway
