Emergency Department RN - 12-week training program for RNs in the Emergency Department

To provide transitioning service members with the knowledge, clinical exposure, and hands-on experience required to deliver safe, effective care in a high-acuity community Emergency Department (ED). This program equips candidates to function as ED Registered Nurses (RNs), integrating behavioral health, medical-surgical, and trauma-focused care in a fast-paced civilian hospital environment.

The Griffin Hospital ED sees about 38,000 patient visits a year of which just under a fifth are pediatric patients. Our ED RNs are responsible for delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based care to patients in a high-acuity ED. We are members of Planetree and for our ED this means we strive to humanize emergency care, for everyone every time. Responsibilities include initial triage (from the waiting room or direct-to-room from Emergency Medical Services [EMS]) and assessment, administration of medications and treatments, emergency response, patient education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR). The ED RN must rapidly adapt to changing clinical conditions and support patients across all age groups, including pediatric, adult, geriatric, maternal health, trauma, and behavioral health populations.Connecticut is now a "compact state", Griffin hospital accepts compact licensure for RNs.
