The Public Relations Specialist will assist the Associate Vice President of University Relations with key projects that support the university’s strategic initiatives and goals. These include: coordinating the “Eastern Edge” community forum series, supporting communications plans for Commencement ceremonies, further developing the EWU Experts Directory, and assisting with media relations training for campus stakeholders. This position will also afford the applicant the opportunity to learn how to engage with key stakeholder partners, community leaders, news media and alumni and donors to garner support for university programs. Other assignments may be provided as opportunities arise.
Title: Public Relations Specialist Time Period: March-August, 2023Responsibilities: Coordinate and assist with the planning of the Eastern Edge community forum series, including event planning, promotions and sponsorships. Support communications programs around Commencement ceremonies, including storytelling and key information for participants. Grow and maintain the EWU Experts Directory, including opportunities for news media placements and program enhancements. Develop a media relations training program for EWU employees. Key projects: Eastern Edge Commencement EWU Experts Directory Media Training Skills Required: Excellent verbal, organizational and writing skills Ability to present in front of small and large groups Project management Ability to work in a high-performing team environment Familiarity with AP style Familiarity with writing and distributing news/media releases Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint Key skills developed: Writing Media Relations Event Planning Community Relations Public Relations Interviewing Project Management Sponsorship Procurement & Stewardship
