Weld Engineer - Internship
The Welding Engineer SkillBridge program provides transitioning service members with technical training and exposure to welding engineering practices within a manufacturing environment. Participants will develop the knowledge and skills required to support welding operations, ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, and contribute to resolving welding-related challenges. This program is designed to build foundational engineering capability in materials joining, process evaluation, and production support, with opportunities aligned across multiple U.S locations based on business needs.
The Welding Engineer supports manufacturing and engineering teams by ensuring welding processes meet applicable codes, standards, and product requirements. This role focuses on developing, qualifying, and maintaining welding procedures, analyzing welding processes and materials, and resolving technical challenges in production and repair environments. Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, or Materials Science, or related field required. Advanced degrees in relevant disciplines are preferred. Must be comfortable working effectively in a manufacturing environment where arc welding, such as GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, SAW, FCAW, and PTAW processes. Experience with welding codes such as ASME Section III, ASME Section IX, NAVSEA, or Tech Pub. Candidates need a working knowledge of welding metallurgy to resolve complex welding issues as well as interpret material specifications. Familiarity with carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, and nickel or copper-based alloys. Identify, evaluate, and resolve non-routine welding engineering problems as they relate to nontraditional manufacturing and repair work. The ideal candidate needs a growth mindset that proactively seeks to solve new and difficult welding engineering challenges.
Program duration and training scope may be expanded or condensed based on participant experience, qualifications, and transition timeline. Due to DoW requirements, candidates must be US citizens. Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Security clearances and approvals
