As a Plumber Fellowship, you'll do on the job training install, repair, and maintain water and sewer systems in City buildings. From fixing leaks and replacing fixtures to troubleshooting plumbing systems and ensuring everything meets code, you'll use your skills to keep essential facilities operating safely and efficiently while delivering quality service to the community.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing skilled and technical work in the repair, maintenance and installation of building water and sewer systems, fixtures and equipment. Reports to the Operations Superintendent - Building Services. There are two (2) levels of Plumber distinguished by the level of work performed and the qualifications of the employee. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Installs new plumbing fixtures and lines; makes major repairs to plumbing systems, fixtures and equipment to include faucets, toilets, water fountains, sinks, drains, valves and water/drainage lines; unstops drain lines and installs water heaters and water coolers. Assists with troubleshooting, repairing and installing water and sewer systems; designs and re-designs systems to meet national and state code; performs inspections and tests on plumbing equipment and systems. Assists with repairing and replacing water heaters and re-circulating pumps, maintaining and repairing single and three phase electric pump motors and pump motor control centers and clearing stoppages in drains and sewers. Completes work orders and reports as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE  Plumbing - Knowledge of plumbing and related systems to lead diagnostic tasks for complex maintenance and repair activities; knowledge of the standards, practices and equipment of the plumbing trade and applicable state and national plumbing and safety codes.  Equipment Operation – Knowledge of the proper procedures for operating, inspecting and maintaining tools and related equipment as needed to construct and maintain properties and equipment. Knowledge of laws and regulations governing the operation of equipment.  Safety - Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation, hazardous materials, traffic patterns and conditions, and other work related precautions. REQUIRED SKILLS  Interpersonal Relationships/Customer Service – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with employees and the public.  Judgement/Decision Making – Ability to anticipate, identify and evaluate potentially dangerous, unusual or deviating situations and to exercise appropriate judgment to establish priorities and take prompt action for problem resolution. REQUIRED ABILITIES  Time Management - Plans and organizes daily work routine. Estimates expected time of completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly. Implements work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules.  Communication – Ability to communicate ideas and verbally and in writing effectively so others will understand. Ability to listen and understand information and ideas being presented verbally and in writing. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Plumber I – Requires a high school diploma and 1-2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Plumber II - Requires a high school diploma and 3-5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires a Journeyman’s Plumber License from the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Requires satisfactory results from a pre- employment medical evaluation. Must successfully complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System Certifications within one year of employment. The job is considered Essential Personnel and will be required to work during and following natural disasters and emergency situations. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS  Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work.  Some combination of climbing and balancing to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.  May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). SENSORY REQUIREMENTS  Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, odors, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.  Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as odors, wetness, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances.

HT, CM, 1341, 12K, 3e4X1, DC or ANY military rates where they may have some experience in any type of plumbing.

Anyone that is willing to learn and is interested in the plumbing field and may have some plumbing skills.
