GAF - Industrial Electrician Manufacturing Skillbridge

GAF, North America's largest privately held roofing manufacturing organization, is launching a hybrid training opportunity for transitioning veterans to become skilled industrial electricians/multi-craft maintenance technicians. This program will be hybrid and will take place across 5 GAF manufacturing sites in the United States.This position will give transitioning veterans the real world skills and training needed to succeed in an industrial manufacturing maintenance career.

GAF is an Industry Partner of the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program. This position will be offer in the following manufacturing facilities;Newton, KansasMount Vernon, IndianaMichigan City, IndianaMyerstown, PennsylvaniaEnnis, Texas (Two manufacturing sites).Interested servicemen and women must be comfortable spending time in the manufacturing sites in those locations. This program is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. The GAF Skillbridge Internship Program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from GAF, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as Active-duty service members.The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program.Goals - The goals of this program are to provide transitioning service members job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer an internship that results in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity upon the conclusion of the training. Objectives - Service Members who complete this Internship program will be highly trained, capable, future employees that align with the needs of the organization. This program provides a comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking, and training specifically focused on starting a successful career at GAF. Outcome - Offer transitioning service members, who successfully complete their Skillbridge Internship in good standing, an offer to join GAF as an Industrial Electrician. Essential DutiesThe Skillbridge Electrical Intern will learn about and help to design, install, maintain and repair electrical systems and equipment at the plant. This person will actively learn about, and start to participate in the predictive and preventative maintenance program in the plant. Essential Duties will include learning and being able to demonstrate proficiency in the following categories:Take part in, and successfully complete, the GAF Industrial Electrician Skillbridge program; including all assigned duties and training material.Read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics for AC/DC motors, motor controls, instrument loops, temperature measurement and indication systems, and general plant wiringInstall, test, maintain and troubleshoot electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and other industrial equipmentSolder joints, wires, components as requiredCalculate electrical loads, wire sizes and switch ratings for new and existing equipmentTest electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixturesPerform preventative maintenance through inspection of electrical systems, equipment and componentsInterpret/convert relay logic applied in control systemsInstall, test, maintain and troubleshoot equipment in places of up to a maximum of 125’ high inside the basket of an articulating boom lift, scissor lift, aerial work platform or man-basket on a forkliftTroubleshoot, maintain and repair machinery and associated components using appropriate test equipmentCut, thread, bend and assemble rigid or thin-walled conduit (EMT)Inform supervisor of progress, problems and concerns related to job assignments, plant condition, equipment status and safety conditionsMaintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records while completing all required written and electronic documentationDemonstrate ability to troubleshoot electrical motor control circuits and componentsDemonstrate ability to troubleshoot lighting, lighting circuits and associated protection devicesInteract with all levels of GAF employees with a customer focused attitudeWork as a collaborative team member with other maintenance technicians, controls specialists and engineers to diagnose, maintain and repair plant equipmentMaintain a clean and orderly work areaMake efficient use of time while properly and accurately completing work associatedWhen not engaged in regular duties, perform other work as requiredPerform basic mechanical dutiesPerform other duties and tasks as assignedUnder This Roof, We Require:High School Diploma or GEDYou must be a transitioning Service Member who is eligible for participation in the DOD SkillBridge program.Served at least 180 continuous days on active dutyWithin 12 months of separation or retirement from the militaryAble to start 180 days prior to separation or retirement from active dutyUnder This Roof, We Value:Industrial maintenance experience is an advantageExperience maintaining computerized records using CMMSExperience supporting a fast-paced manufacturing environment is an advantage.Experience working with OSHA general industry standards including hot work and lockout tag out.

This program will require transitioning veterans to be on-site at the manufacturing facility for 26 weeks. We will be bringing on 5 individuals for this first cohort, in total, across all of our locations that the program is being offered in.
