Bighorn National Forest Internship Program - Job Training Program
Come serve as Maintenance Worker Helper on the Bighorn National Forest. You will perform various duties to accomplish preventive maintenance, repair, and upkeep of building and grounds. Such tasks may include operating heavy and light power equipment, carpentry, painting, operation of tools and equipment and general laborer tasks.
Carpentry: Measures and cuts materials to required lengths and dimensions. Installs structural and trim items by nailing, bolting, mortising, doweling, and gluing. Uses a variety of common hand and power tools, and basic assembly and fastening procedures. Painting: Prepares surfaces, cleans brushes and equipment. Mixes and thins paints, applies prime and finish coats to surfaces. Checks items processed for obvious flaws and apply necessary preservative to surface. Building and Grounds Maintenance: Assists other workers with repairs to various facilities and grounds. Utilizes elementary knowledge of different skills and related tools of the trade to assist with repair to plumbing, drainage systems, roofs, carpentry projects, grounds and street repairs, flooring, and other miscellaneous tasks. Operates heavy power cleaning equipment. Operates motor vehicles in performance of assigned duties. Loads and unloads materials and equipment. Performs vehicle maintenance in accordance with established instructions, rules and regulations. Cleans working area upon completion of assignments, and removes waste materials from the area. Cleans and cares for tools and equipment.Availability from May-October required. No internships currently available outside of these dates.
Candidates will have options at three duty stations: Buffalo, Greybull, and Sheridan Wyoming. Individual responsible for housing.Bi-weekly Q&A and Orientation sessions available for interested applicants.
