Welder
Performs a variety of welding duties including, but not limited to, using electric, acetylene, forge, and/or inert gas shielded welding processes. Determines proper welding techniques, and proper materials to use based on the nature of the job being performed. Welds a variety of similar and dis similar materials ranging from thin sheet metal up to six inch thick materials such as cast iron, brass, copper, bronze, aluminum, galvanized, and stainless steel. Must be familiar with the welding process such as preheating, brazing, bead welding, tack welding, soldering, flame cutting, plasma cutting, pressure welding, and heat treating; selecting of type electrode and size of tip to accomplish weld, determining heat necessary, setting up and adjusting equipment, maintaining proper speed, motion tip angle and position to produce desired results. After item has been welded examines weld joints for voids, cracks, or other defects by use of chemical (dye penetrant) or by pressure testing (liquid or air) in confined spaces, and lock out tag out procedures. Must be knowledgeable in the repair, modification, and fabrication of industrial equipment such as engine and transmission test cells and Dynameters, and be familiar with the repair of industrial equipment such as blast booths, dust collectors, facilities, and production equipment.
